We obtained a Supreme Court victory for Japanese ocean service “K” Line in Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. v. Regal-Beloit Corp., which unanimously held that ocean carriers are not topic to regulation underneath the Carmack Amendment once they make intermodal shipments that travel each by sea and by land. We successfully challenged a federal statute that made it tougher for unwed U.S.-citizen fathers than unwed U.S.-citizen mothers to move citizenship to a toddler born abroad, which the Supreme Court held unconstitutional beneath the Fifth Amendment’s principle of equal protection in Sessions v. Morales-Santana.
